The sixth year of the Roma Spirit awards ceremony will be held at the Prague Crossroads on Saturday, 10 December 2016, on the occasion of the International Human Rights Day. Every year, these awards show and honor the work and activities that help to improve the quality of life of Romani people. The goal of the project is to change the distorted image of Romani people and to eliminate prejudice by showing positive examples. This year, the public nominated 216 individuals, towns and commercial and non-profit organizations; 15 of them moved on to the next round. These nominees, as well as young Romani talents performing as part of the cultural program, will be presented during the gala evening.
The Roma Spirit project was initiated by Mrs. Lubomíra Slušná-Franz, president of the Association for Culture, Education and Communication (ACEC) that realizes this project in Slovakia. The first year of this project was organized in the Czech Republic in 2009 by Michael Kocáb, the back-then minister for human rights, under the auspices of President Václav Havel. From the very beginning, this event has been held at the Prague Crossroads. It is organized by the Michael Kocáb Foundation.
